Andris J. Silins has been a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America since 1968. He first joined Local 67 in Boston, MA after serving with the Marines in Vietnam. He served as the Boston Councils general agent starting in 1979 and was elected the council president in 1989. He was elected to the General Executive Board for the McCarron team in 1995.
Andy served as General Secretary-Treasurer of the UBC until he retired in 2019. As General Secretary-Treasurer of the UBC he coordinated the financial and administrative operations of the union. He also served as the Labor Chair for INSTALL and with the Interior Systems Labor-Management Committee. In addition to his responsibilities with the UBC, Andy has served as chairman and trustee for a number of union-related funds. He serves as treasurer of the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency Board and as chairman of that agency’s retirement fund.
Andy grew up in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston. He received a bachelor’s degree in labor relations from the University of Massachusetts 1985.
He has been married to his wife Diane for 40 years. He and Diane have a son, Jake. Andy and Diane reside on Cape Cod.
